The Sar Pass Trek is a quintessential Himalayan adventure located in the heart of the Parvati Valley. This trek is famous for its diverse terrain, leading you through thick rhododendron forests, lush alpine meadows, and eventually into a world of snow and ice. The name "Sar" translates to "Lake," referring to a small frozen lake you cross while traversing the pass. The highlight of the trek is the exhilarating descent from the summit, where trekkers often enjoy long, controlled snow slides. It offers a perfect mix of challenge and beauty, making it one of the most popular treks in Himachal Pradesh.

Your journey begins in the vibrant town of Kasol. Report to the base camp, settle into your tents, and undergo a formal registration process. The afternoon is dedicated to an orientation session covering trek rules, mountain manners, and packing tips. Spend your evening exploring the local markets of Kasol or relaxing by the banks of the Parvati River to help your body adjust to the mountain climate. Overnight stay in tents at Kasol.
The trek starts with an easy walk along the Grahan Nallah. As you move away from the river, the trail becomes steeper, winding through dense forests of rhododendron and pine. Grahan Village is a charming traditional settlement with wooden houses and no cellular network, offering a true mountain experience. Enjoy the local hospitality and a peaceful evening in the village. Overnight stay in a guesthouse or tents at Grahan.
Today’s trail leads through canopy-covered forests and opens up into beautiful clearings. The climb is moderately steep as you gain significant altitude. "Thach" means meadow, and Min Thach is a stunning high-altitude pasture offering panoramic views of the Nagaru peak and the surrounding snow-capped ranges. The sunsets here are particularly spectacular. Overnight stay in tents at Min Thach.
The trek from Min Thach to Nagaru involves a steep ascent through rocky terrain and patches of snow. Nagaru is the highest campsite on this trek, situated on a ridge. The weather here can be unpredictable, with cold winds and freezing temperatures. However, the views of the Parvati Valley and the shimmering lights of Manikaran far below are essential. Use the evening to rest, hydrate, and mentally prepare for the summit day. Overnight stay in tents at Nagaru.
Begin early for the most exhilarating day of the trek—the Sar Pass summit climb. Trek through snowfields and icy trails as the sun rises over the mountains. At Sar Pass (13,800 ft), witness a spectacular 360-degree Himalayan panorama, making the climb truly rewarding. After spending time at the summit, begin your descent through long snow slopes, where controlled glissading (sliding on snow) adds thrill to the experience. The landscape soon transforms into the lush green meadows of Biskeri Thach, your final campsite. Overnight stay in tents at Biskeri Thach.
On the final day, descend through dense pine forests, cascading waterfalls, and scenic mountain villages. The trail offers a calming contrast to the high-altitude terrain, making for a relaxing conclusion to the trek. After approximately 5 hours of downhill trekking, arrive at Barshaini, where local transport options are available. Proceed back to Kasol Base Camp, marking the end of the Sar Pass Trek adventure. Check-out by 5:00 PM with unforgettable memories.
